Here to stay

Mountains will be in our way,
for I am here not to leave
but to stay.

Winds will blow your thoughts away,
for your feelings should be red
instead of grey.

Running out of time and expression
to explain to you,
what you mean to me,
I wish it was the same for you.

Where I'm From

I am from the forgotten Dutch land
From the two houses which shared one garden
I am from the “Faya lobis” which shine bright,
even brighter when you give them to a loved one
From the mango tree which stood like a giant
in front of the porch.

I’m from “krentenbollen” and "lollipops"
From Caraibs and Sranangman.
I’m from the "tjoerie’s"
And the no peaking
I am from “Lord pray for me”
From the circle which prayed in front of the school.

I am from underneath the stairs
From grandmother who said her last phrases
gently in my ears.
From the tears which rolled of my cheeks
The rain drops that soaked me
The warm embrace of Suzan
The “Pull up your pants” of Peter and Astrid
From “Why are you scared? Come closer!”
