Serengeti

COMMON AGAMA: Look near brightly-coloured male common agamas for groups of well-camouflaged females.DWARF MONGOOSE: Dwarf mongooses are widespread in savanna and can become semitame around lodges.HYRAX: Groups of what look like football-sized guinea pigs sitting around kopjes and cliffs are in fact hyraxes, a uniquely African group of herbivores.HAMERKOP: The hamerkop's distinctive profile earned it an Afrikaans name meaning "hammerhead".GREAT WHITE PELICAN: Pelicans are readily distinguished by their pouch: an elastic flap of skin under the massive bill which in the breeding season glows with color.CRESTED FRANCOLIN: Francolins belong to the great order loosely known as game birds that have been the butt of hunters' activities for centuries.UNKNOWN SPECIES: Can you help me identifying this bird?SUPERB STARLING: Adult superb starlings are stunning but common birds that can be a pest at picnic tables.KORI BUSTARD: Although all bustards can fly strongly should the need arise, they are consummate walkers.TAWNY EAGLE: The solitary tawny eagle is one of the most widespread resident birds of prey in East Africa.SACRED IBIS: Small groups of sacred ibises can be seen feeding in wetlands, cultivation and even gardens.TRIP TO SERENGETI, NGORONGORO AND LAKE NAKURU: April 2009 - Jan, Astrid, Etienne en PeterOSTRICH: Ostriches don't bury their hand in the sand, although they sometimes sit on their nests with neck outstretched on the ground to protect their eggs or chicks.VERVET MONKEY: A troop is mainly comprised of females and young that defend an ancestral home range, assisted by males that compete among themselves for mating rights and dominance.GIRAFFE: That neck is the longest in the animal kingdom but still has only seven bones - the same as you and every other mammal.FLAMINGO: Masses of pink birds shimmering through the heat haze - audible but inaccessible across fields of treacherous mud - make a tantalising sight.OLIVE BABOON: Intelligent and opportunistic, baboons appear to be expanding their range in the face of human settlement.LION: This is the big cat of the plains, larger and more powerful than any other predator: lions' jaws bite easily through muscle and bones.WATERBUCK: If there is any antelope you are virtually guaranteed to see on safari it is the waterbuck. This large animal somehow maintains a stately bearing even when grazing up to its belly in water.AFRICAN BUFFALO: Perhaps no other large animal has the African buffalo's reputation: a big bull stands 1.70m at the shoulder - one is even reputed to have tossed a 4x4.HARTEBEEST: The fossil record shows that hartebeests have evolved only over the last million years or so.WILDEBEEST: No other antelopes spark as much excitement as wildebeests on their famous year-long cycle of grazing, rutting and calving known as "the migration".TOPI: Topis sometimes stand atop termite mounds to scan for danger or to advertise territorial status.WHITE RHINOCEROS: White rhinos are no more white than black rhinos are black: the name is a corruption of weit, a Dutch word meaning wide - referring to the shape of its mouth.AFRICAN ELEPHANT: Besides being the largest animal and truly charismatic, African elephants show some amazing signs of intelligence and what looks like compassion.

  1. Dag Peter,

    Habari Yako !

Search for ‘Uptown Fine Art Printing Studio’.

  2. Dag Peter,

Oeioei!

    Groeten,

    André.
